Overview
Aegilops tauschii originated in West Asia, and has been distributed in Shanxi, Henan, Shandong and Jiangsu in China. It is an intentional introduced species. NOSTOC is a common weed in dry field, grassland and wheat field because of its drought tolerance and adaptability.
Aegilops tauschii reproduces by seed. Some of the seeds fall into the field after maturity and germinate the following year, while most of the seeds are transported and spread in the seeds of crops such as wheat. Aegilops tauschii is a gramineous weed with dark green seedlings and purplish red bases. When the new leaves are pulled out, they are rolled up like a tube and the leaves are strip-shaped. After heading, it was higher than normal wheat, the spike was columnar, the Rachis only produced one spikelet per node, and the tip of the Rachis had 1-4 cm long awns.
