Species Information

Common name:        Purple Falsebrome

Scientific name:         Brachypodium distachyon

Chinese name:        二穗短柄草

Taxonomy

       Angiosperms/Monocotyledoneae/Gramineae/Brachypodium/Brachypodium distachyon

Overview

As the only annual weed of the genus Brevicaulis, the most common and well-studied species of the Genus Mizuho, which originated in northern Africa and the Middle East, it is now mainly distributed in Europe, the Mediterranean region and the Milin region of Turkey,Pakistan, India and China.
The sequence of the genes of the genus Mizuho has been completed. The results show that the genus Mizuho shares a common ancestor with Rice and wheat. Rice seeds were formed from original plants about 40-53 million years ago, and wheat seeds from 32-39 million years ago, in the following years, triticum hominis formed from the Genus Mizuho, which is closely related to triticum Hominis, and their genomes are more than 95% similar, and all kinds of bacteria susceptible to wheat infection can infect triticum Hominis hominis, therefore, the Mizuho is an ideal plant for studying new model plants of wheat and rice crops, arabidopsis, a dicotyledonous model plant, will lead a new revolution in monocots research after extensive research.
