Overview
Setaria viridis grown throughout China; occurs in wild areas below 4,000 meters above sea level, along roadsides, and is a common weed in upland crops. Originated in the temperate and warm temperate regions of Eurasia, is now widely distributed in the world's temperate and subtropical regions. Setaria likes to grow in warm and humid climate, to loose fertile, Rich Humus Sandy loam and clay loam appropriate.
Setaria viridis is an annual late spring weed. The optimum temperature for seed Germination is 15-30 °c, the peak time is in the early and middle of May, and the seed-setting time is in august-october. Seeds can be spread by wind, flowing water and manure and germinate after hibernation. Its culms, leaves can be used as feed, also can be used as medicine, cure carbuncle, facial tinea; spikelet can refine furfural.
